Letterman is Unbelievable.

October 17, 2008

So I’m watching Letterman right now ONLY because McCain is going to be on.  I vowed to boycott The Late Show show a few months ago, which of course was followed by many letters (cause that’s my thing..letter writing).  Well his opening monologue has been 100% McCain jokes thus far (We’re at the first commercial break) and I find myself wondering what Letterman’s job actually is.  Is he supposed to provide late night entertainment to as many people as possible, meaning is it not his responsibility to keep viewers tuned in so as the station can sell as much advertising as possible, seeing as they have a fiduciary responsibility to company shareholders?  OR is his job to alienate half the population of the country?  Bad business plan Dave!  Thing is, if I wanted political commentary I’d turn on the radio or cable news.

Part 2:  Dave just seems like an angry old man.  I understand the passion and emotional immaturity involved in being passionate about politics :) But his anger is astonishing considering what his job is.

If I hear the sound bite of Rosie O’Donnell saying that 9/11 was the first occasion that fire melted steel I may have to melt my eyebrows off with a blowtorch!   She asks for proof. Apparently she has never seen THIS.

Dixie Chicks on the AMA’s?

November 22, 2006

I thought the American Music Awards would like to have performers that people actually want to watch, you know, to make the almighty advertising dollar.  Apparently the powers that be prefer to have an act perform that had to cancel something like 15 American tour dates and play to 5000 people in a 15,000 person arena, to make some sort of political statement.  *”We here at the AMA’s would like 80% of our viewers to change the channel for the next 5 minutes’

The famous Natalie Maines quote, “I gotta tell you, it is nice to be in a country where you’re not worried about them spitting in your face.” What a hypocrite.  It seems the dish-it-but-can’t-take-it phrase is not in her vocabulary, which is odd because she has such a classy one.  The most laughable part is that she is singlehandedly responsible for her downfall.  She has a right to say whatever she wants and we have a right to not purchase tickets to her show.  Which is exactly what has happened.  So what does she do?  Maines insults her original fans by calling them ugly, yet again there is the hypocrisy because I have yet to see her join weight watchers.  She should be thanking those “ugly” fans for making her the falling star that she is today and giving her the public forum to partake in her 1st Ammendment rights.  Just as her ex fans have chosen to participate in a good old fashioned boycott.

What she said, though tacky and disgusting, is insignificant.  What should be noted is her hypocrisy.  She exercised her freedoms and so did we, but when we do it that makes us the subject of schoolyard insults.  Way to go sister!
